Special Collections and University Archives
Beginning Monday, August 25, 2026, Special Collections and University Archives will have new operating hours. We will be open Monday-Friday from 10a-5p. Appointments (encouraged, but not required) for those hours can be made online. Reference, research, and instruction support/requests can still be made via email (specref@vt.edu), phone (540-231-6308), or in-person during our new hours. We will continue to accomodate class visits and reseachers outside of our open hours with prior notice--please contact us to ask!

For rare books and publications, search the University Libraries catalog.
For finding aids, you can also search Archival Resources of the Virginias (ARVAS). ARVAS indexes finding aids (collection descriptions) to manuscripts and archival materials held by more than 55 historical societies, libraries, museums, colleges, universities, and other cultural heritage institutions across Virginia and West Virginia. This includes finding aids for manuscript collections, record group (university records), maps, textiles, oral histories, and art and artifacts held by Special Collections and University Archives at Virginia Tech.
What does Special Collections and University Archives do?
Virginia Tech Special Collections and University Archives in the University Libraries offers a wealth of material to support research, engage one’s interests, and excite the imagination. Our mission is to collect and preserve unique, historical materials and provide access to them in their original form. When possible, Special Collections and University Archives also offers materials in digital format.
